  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a warehouse management logistics apprentice, my job varies from day to day but I generally do pallet checks to ensure they are suitable to be loaded and delivered to stores. I also have to assist the intake team and so have to deal with drivers and ask them to restack pallets etc.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt to use a variety of trucks and how to do advanced tasks such as processing the back-picking and pick-rates.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy the team I work with and the work I do is good as it varies it met my expectations and then surpassed them.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • I feel somewhat valued but not overly the main reason being is that I am not the fastest member of staff and thus have less use in tasks requiring me to go fast for extended periods but I have skills elsewhere for example I translate for some of the foreign drivers if we have a problem and I can speak the language this drastically helps improve communication between the intake team and the drivers dropping goods off. The managers all treat me well give me praise where it is due and advise me on better ways to do the tasks I perform.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The structure of the program could use a lot of improvement but I can cope with it how it is and it would be difficult to find time to set out a specific plan and I find it better if there is less structure as it keeps me on my feet and I don't know what I will be doing that da. If I am offered training I will be made aware 1 month in advance usually but occasionally people forget and I am made aware last minute. We have weekly meetings with the apprentice manager who will talk to our section leaders where we are working and then review our progression. There is a clear hierarchy in the warehouse due to the use of different coloured high visibility clothing.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a great amount of support from my trainer when he comes in, we can do a great deal of the paper work and text book in one day and he is easy to access as all I would have to do is call him and he can help me.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • From the warehouse staff I receive support and assistance with information on how to improve the way I do my job and showing me better ways to do them. My manager also as said previously has weekly meetings with us and so if I need any support it is easy to get.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My pay is very good fro an apprenticeship I can pay for my car and fuel etc. I am still saving to buy a house but in the end it is not a bad pay and it meets my needs well but does not easily surpass them.

  • Very rarely will the company offer activities outside of the workplace however they do occasionally.

  • Yes

  • They are a good employer and pay well whilst offering the training needed etc.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Arrive early, look smart and make sure it is easy to access from your house.
