  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As a Store Apprentice, you are always busy, whether it is on the tills serving customers-remembering Aldi is about speed and there are always targets such as your till speed to meet-which keeps you in check! Also, on the shopfloor, working stock to high standards, remembering stock rotation and the priority to cover off-sales before anything else. This is something i must do daily.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, i have developed customer service, and how to work in a team. I have received NVQ level 2 qualifications in retail and customer service, which is great for my achievement and progression at Aldi. I have learnt how to work quickly but efficiently to ensure productivity is met.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy having the responsibility and variance within roles, no day is the same to another and I have learnt all different aspects to Aldi over the year. There are high expectations but you soon adapt to them and progress on, to become quicker and more efficient. I enjoy my role.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Aldi?
  • I feel that i am an important part to Aldi, i would like to receive more training, and as an Apprentice be given more stable hours of work with different shifts so that my learning is pushed to the limit, but i feel welcomed by Aldi and that they want me to progress and achieve.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The program is well structured and fairly relaxed, in fact the process could be a lot quicker but the support and training received has been good and i feel i have been given many responsibilities to learn and be efficient. There arent as many meetings with management and mentors as i'd expected, its very relaxed but everything seems to flow through.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My trainig provider is very good, if i have any problems they are happy to help and sort it out, i feel i can trust them and they are accessible 24/7. Their attitude towards me is kind and caring too.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive some support from my employer but not as much as i'd hoped considering i'm an Apprentice and how often im there. If i have a problem i can discuss it, but can't guarantee it being sorted with the employer, where as with my mentor i can guarantee it can be sorted.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary is pretty good, i get enough to afford my general bills and daily costs- even though i am taxed a fair bit. I tend to get a lift or walk to work rather than spending wages on public transport however. My salary is good, but i follow the same contract and position as a normal Store Assistant who would be on £8.40 or more, so this can be annoying at times as i only receive £5.40 per hour.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are some opportunities to get involved with outside of work such as bike to work scheme, Aldi benefits- discounted tickets. There are lists of sponsors and fitness gyms to get involved with too.

  • 9. Would you recommend Aldi to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Aldi is a good place to work and a good chance to gain training for future life and for promotion. The pay is good, and the job role is nice, the scheme is well set out and there are chances for anyone to achieve.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Aldi?
  • Advice given would be to enjoy every day, dont let others get you down, put in as much effort into it as you can to show what you can do and how efficient you are- this impresses and boosts your position with trust and responsibilities. I would log all my learning portals so this is evident for my mentor, giving you more qualifications.
