1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am a Civil Apprentice which involved a lot of work on software like AutoCAD and Revit. I mark-up and complete construction drawings as well as doing bits of project management and a variety of other tasks.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

Before my Apprenticeship I had some skills using 2D and 3D modelling software but since starting my Apprenticeship these skills have developed greatly.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I enjoy the programme overall. The college work interests me as well as the work with Mott MacDonald, although over time I have felt work to be slightly repetitive and boring at times. I expected more opportunities to visit sites etc. But overall I do enjoy the programme.

4. How valued do you feel by Mott MacDonald?

I feel valued to a fair extent. As an Apprentice I understand how I should be valued and where I stand in the company so I feel I am valued fairly by Mott MacDonald.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme is well structured in terms of both work and college. College is well structured in terms of block release, individual lessons, assessments etc. Mott MacDonald also keep on top of my college work and my progress at work, so I would say the programme is well organised/structured.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

I receive a good amount of support from my training provider. I have a review every time I have a college block where I discuss my progress in college and work and am offered an ample amount of support.

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I also receive a good amount of support from my employer. I have had professional progress reviews at different stages since starting my apprenticeship where I review everything at work and college and set targets for my progress.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

I feel my salary is fair. It could be more but as an 18 year old Apprentice who still lives with parents, I can't complain about the salary. Although I feel I would struggle on my salary if I was to try and rent/buy my own property and live alone.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

I went to one company event shortly after I joined where all the recently recruited Apprentices stayed somewhere over a weekend and did indoor and outdoor activities. Although I personally haven't been to any other company events outside of work, but there have been opportunities for sports & social events. Due to my working hours I do have time to do non-company related hobbies etc. outside of work.

9. Would you recommend Mott MacDonald to a friend?

Yes

9b. Why?

Mott MacDonald are a very large company with great opportunities for all employees so I would recommend the company to anyone with the opportunity to work with them. Although I haven't been with Mott MacDonald a very large amount of time I have been told by multiple colleagues that employees are treated very well.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mott MacDonald?

I felt that my application/interview process was very relaxed and was very different to any I had experienced previously. My interview didn't consist of a large amount of typical interview questions and was more of a 'chat' which is good in my opinion as it makes both sides feel more relaxed during the interview. Due to this I would advise anyone applying to be relaxed and open when doing so.
