  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a trainee Associate at EY, my day to day roles include completing tasks for an audit that are within my capabilities and also gaining coaching and training so that I can perform tasks that may be outside my comfort zone and capability level at first. I get to spend a lot of time communicating with the client, there is no segregation, everyone is treated equally and fairly.

  • I believe from my experiences so far that I get treat equally as well as most of the other members of my audit teams, I feel my work is valued just as much as anyone else from one to one conversations you have with managers on the teams who will pull you aside and thank you personally for your hard work and efforts during the audit.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like the school leaver programme at EY is very well thought out, my only issue with it would be that there seems to be times when college weeks are rearranged or everyone is informed at short notice. The training and support received throughout however is very thorough and very much appreciated, everyone in the company wants you to pass your exam and do well.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • In terms of salary the EY school leaver programme salary fairs very well against other apprenticeship providers for the same programme, also we receive a very generous expense allowance for travel to and from client sites and meals/hotels...if away from home.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • EY hold a lot of events outside of work, such as business corporate events which we host, Entrepreneur of the year for example there are lots of opportunities to get involved in the organisation of these events, which gives more opportunities to network with smaller businesses which may well become clients in the future. Furthermore, we get the opportunity to go into schools and give presentations to sixth form and GCSE students about our programmes, not only can we do this but we can also arrange this independently and run them of our own accord. There are a huge range of opportunities like these at EY even things like work socials and summer BBQs and football and netball teams that compete in the local areas.

  • 9. Would you recommend EY to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I believe EY has given me skills with which I can grow and an environment where I can exploit my new skills and developed older ones to their full potential. It is a very interesting programme and company to work for. Offers a huge range of possibilities including secondments abroad, furthermore due tot he vast number of offices across the UK, and the world, it is very easy to relocate and still stay within EY hence not having to worry about losing your job on top of moving!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EY?
  • It is very important to do lots of research about EY before the Interview and assessment day stages and to have a few facts memorised in advance to slip into conversation as this shows you care enough to do your research! Furthermore it is important to be yourself honest and truthful, as they will hire you for who you really are.
