  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I did 2 weeks of work experience from Allianz global corporate and speciality where I assisted the aviation claims department and helped understand how and why the airline compaines were making claims for crashes and who was at fault etc. It was interesting to see who was claiming for what and how much.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I learnt a lot about team working and making sure I understood the detail behind the claim. the claims were very detailled and I needed to understand the situation properly so that I could work out if the company would be paid for the damage or if they had caused the damage themselves. Quite a few of the claims were of such large values that I got to work with the underwriters too to understand how they value claims and payouts.

  • I felt valued as the spreadsheet I made was sent to their head offce in Germany where it is still used today! It was good to see how the company operates and how they treat their staff. • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My work experience was done for free but the company paid for my train travel as they were getting free work for 2 weeks which was very helpful otherwise I would have had to pay £250 ish to do 2 weeks work expereince which is a lot of money for a young person. Having spoke around it was clear that the wages were high and everyone was happy.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • They had an after work football team and organised drinks after work where team building could take place and you could get to know everyone better which was good. I went along to a couple of the sessions which were good as I got to network with some of the people higher up in the business which was good as they got to put a name to a face.

  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • Allianz offers good pay for their employers, a good work life balance as well as employee satisfaction. They want to get their employees chartered and push training hard which is good as the employees feel looked after and want to work harder and more productive. Allianz were very helpful during my work experience.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Allianz?
  • To get into the company you can apply online but for the work expereince the avaitions claims manager was a family friend so one email was all that was needed in get on the work exereince course. During the application process for normal jobs you need to do maths verbal and non verbl tests before you are invited to an assessment day and interview.
