  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • my role in the nursery is a nursery assistant, i work along side the other staff in my toddler room to ensure each day is different and enjoyable for the children. I ensure the activities set out to do are fun and challenging. My daily tasks are to prepare food, do the children nappies and support the children in their development.I have grown confidence with the children parents which is good as the parents need to trust the people they are leaving their children with, it is very good to build a trusted bond with the parents.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a lot of new skills through this course, I have completed my Level 2, therefore that is the main one i have developed. My internal and external training have taught me the most, training days at head office have taught me everything i need to know about the Asquith way of doing things such as; key persons, planning, first aid and policies and procedures. Internal training is the important part, learning whilst i'm working, understanding more and more as i work with the children.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is extremely well organised and structured, we had a big induction day where we could meet the other apprentices and feel very welcomed. All of the training days were organised for the whole year and have not at all changed dates, the dates have always been the same throughout the year which i think is very organised as there is no confusion. The study hours the apprentices got i think was extremely helpful and very well structured as it was very important for me to get the study hours and it helped me greatly.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I received a lot of support from my assessor, she asked me at the beginning of the year whether I preferred to have her by my side throughout the course or when i needed her, i prefer to do things on my own and then get help when i need it so therefore this was very good for me as i never once felt pressured to do something. I recieved great guidance from both my assessor and mentor.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My mentor - Sara Broadbridge, was extremely good with me, she would always ask how im getting on and if i needed any help with anything, she would also have half an hour with me a week to fill out my weekly discussions and would always take her time to do them so that i feel comfortable with her to discuss any problems i had. The room leader i am working with at the moment, Jenny Peach has also been extremely good at helping me succeed at my level 2, she was always there for support and always praised me for the work i do.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I took part in a work event in London, advertising asquith and giving school leavers opportunities to sign up to the company. I also help out at the open days for the nursery, this is very good for me to be able to introduce new children into the nursery and invite new children in.
