  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • HR Business Support Role My daily tasks include; monitoring my call stack, communicating with employees on a daily basis via email or telephone, answering queries quickly and efficiently, processing a variety of HR based enquiries ie; paternity leave, jury service, Season Ticket Loans, opening and distributing post, ordering stationary, owning and keeping the floor distribution list up to date and helping wherever possible. I am responsible for my own call queue and the ZZAdmin mailbox. I update and amend all the processes I work with on a daily basis to accommodate changes that may affect the way the processes work. I am responsible for keeping all stationary stocked up, the floor and team distribution lists updated and make sure everyone who needs access to the HR 10th Floor Conference Rooms, has access.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I've gained my level 3 qualification in Business and Administration. Through internal training I have learnt a good selection of the HR Projects Supports Teams processes and now am able to help the Projects Support team when my work queue is at low capacity. I have learnt a variety of personal and professional skills ranging from how to draft up a formal email to how to calculate redundancy quotes. Everything I use in my job role currently has been learnt over the duration of my apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my job role and am extremely happy with the team I work in as we all work together and help each other when capacity is high. The apprenticeship for this specific role however does not need to be 2 years long, I felt like by the end of my first year I knew my job role inside out and felt like I needed to keep expanding my knowledge and move into a more challenging job role. However saying that, I currently keep on top of my current role and have been on training courses to expand my knowledge in other areas to help other teams when I have low capacity and have completed everything.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The training I received at the beginning of my apprenticeship was great, we were then left to do the job role on our own. Everyone was very supportive and made me feel like I could ask questions and it wasn't a hassle. Regarding the rest of the programme after training, wasn't too structured, I would have a meeting with my mentor once a month. We would go over what I needed to complete for the following month which was fine, however it would have been helpful if during these sessions spent a bit of time doing practice tests together so if I needed to enquire about something I was unsure on I could ask face to face, rather than over email. My current team leader has been very supportive and encouraging which has been great. I haven't had much structure with the rest of my apprenticeship, just got on with my job role which is fine though I felt I could have moved on to a more challenging job role after my first year, which I mentioned previously.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Like I mentioned in the question above, I feel like it would have been useful to have a little bit more time with the mentor to go through practice tests and example questions to make myself feel a bit more confident in knowing what the test where about. However the support I did receive was fine, my mentor went through everything I needed to complete months in advance. We always booked in our monthly meeting a month in advance so we knew exactly when we were catching up. My mentor made me feel at ease and I felt like I could ask him anything and let him know if I had any problems with the role or the future tests.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my manager and the team I work within, they are very encouraging and are constantly encouraging me to get involved and try new processes if I have low capacity. If I ever need help with a tricky query they will always stop what they are doing to help. The guidance they give me is very in depth and helpful they will always explain everything to me and not just skim the surface. Very happy with the support I have received from my manager and my team.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Happy with my wage as an apprentice wage, though I'm hoping when I finish my apprenticeship I will be offered a job role with the same wage as the rest of my colleagues. I feel if everyone is doing the same job role they should be paid equally, and on how they perform in their role. It shouldn't depend on whether they joined the company as an apprentice or not.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes there are plenty of opportunities. We get emails around company events activates, voluntary opportunities, classes etc.. Being part of the apprentice community enables you to get involved and meet the rest of the apprentices who are in the same boat as you.
