I perform a desktop support role for an external company, this involves taking calls on a second line basis for a public sector client which operate a thin client service.
I have developed lots of new skills and also developed existing skills and worked on weaknesses. I have become a lot more organised and work to deadlines better.
I enjoy the programme as it allows me to learn from both a practical and theoretical standpoint with the hands on experience and class based elements of the program.
I feel quite valued by fujitsu. The apprentices have been encouraged to participate in team building exercises with workmates. Our progress has also been tracked to make sure we dont fall behind.
The structure of the programme has been clearly set out from the beginning, with marked intervals to evaluate how far along we have come and were we need to be.
We receive a lot of support from our training providers in Belfast Met. Aside from the weekly classes there are also assessors which visit us in work to check on our progress.
We receive a lot of support from our employers, we have been released on a weekly basis to attend classes and tests while also been given time in work to complete apprenticeship based tasks.
At the moment on an apprentices salary my costs have been adequately met, although the companies general pay structure leaves me close to the breadline. I'm not quite on the street but not far off. Other companies seem to be more competitive.
Outside of work Fujitsu and Belfast met are very open to extra training and will allow apprentices to experience different tasks and areas. We are given the opportunity to attend workshops and events.
Yes
Fujitsu have a wide range of roles and departments within the company, anyone applying would be able to learn from a lot of experienced employees from different areas of IT.
I would tell others applying for Fujitsu to keep an open mind and consider what they hope to achieve from the apprenticeship, its a nice working environment and a good place to gain experience, if not get rich.
