  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I'm a first year signalling project engineering apprentice and at the moment what I do daily is learning the building blocks that I will have to know in order to do my job to the required standards, this is done by gaining a number of different qualifications throughout the year.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt a great deal since I have been here all from a number of experienced and qualified tutors and also attended courses taught by Network Rail Staff who have years of experience on the job. I have also developed my leadership skills through the ILM programme offered which focuses on leadership skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy every area of the apprenticeship scheme from the work that I'm being taught as I feel it is relevant and interesting to the environment I'm learning in. I also enjoy being a part of my class as we work as an effective team and support each other throughout the learning experience.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Network Rail?
  • I feel that Network Rail Values every on of their apprentices throughout our time here, when we perform well we are shown appreciation at our cascade meetings.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is organised extremely well I feel, all of our training is efficiently planned out in a way where we are learning as much as possible within the first year but at the same time without overloading us. The tutors provide any support we need in understanding any element of the courses.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I feel that every time I have needed assistance with my work my tutors have been there to give me all the help I need.

  • I feel that my employer is a very supportive one not only when it comes to work but also when it comes my life outside of work.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My pay covers my needs as my employer pays for most of my living costs.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many events offered by Network Rail that I am allowed to attend in order to further my abilities in my job.

  • Yes

  • I feel it's an amazing opportunity to become part of a very good company and also have a good job for life.

  • Apply as soon as you can and give your best in the interview stages to have the best chance in getting the job.
