  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Front Line Manager working in under Local Compliance directorate in Individuals and Small Business Compliance (I&SBC). I manage a team of 9 compliance caseworkers who are currently working VAT Missing Returns and chasing up traders who have not submitted Missing returns for certain period. My day to day role involves man management & performance management, ensuring my team are achieving their targets. I am also responsible for the quality results of my team, and have to complete a certain number of checks per month on each team member. My day to day duties involve complete stats to show how my team is performing as well as dealing with any concerns from individual team members. I have to be adaptable and reactive to any changes or problems that arise. I also have to report to my line manager with updates on how the team is performing. Alongside my role I am studying towards a level 4 apprenticeship in Business Administration, which involves classroom session monthly, tele-kit dial ins and completing assignments.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed massively in my ability to hold performance based discussion and lead team meetings, something that I had never done previously. This is my first management role and I have had to develop these skills rapidly. I have also expanded on my knowledge of Business & Economics from A-Level in my apprenticeship studies.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I left my previous job as I did not find it to be very challenging. In my current role I face challenges every day and am enjoying the role, as well as the study opportunities that go along side it.

  • I currently feel valued and have been accepted well by my colleagues and management.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The organisation prior to beginning the course was not well structured. I did not know my job role until I arrived on my first day. Since I have began it did seem like the team I was joining and my manager were unaware of my arrival, however they have been welcoming. The induction process was somewhat well planned but my on the job training took a while to get going. The apprenticeship sessions do sometimes seem last minute organised also.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The support provided is always to a high standard but it is often hard to come by. It can often take a long time to receive feedback from any evidence or assignments submitted.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I was drawn to the position initially because of the salary and it was a huge wage rise from my previous role so I am happy with it so far.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The Fast Track scheme has offered many opportunities and I am very grateful for these. I was recently involved in 'The Great Apprenticeship Takeover' event which I enjoyed and helped develop my skills in project management.
