  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I currently work in Leadership and Development after being transferred from strategy and inclusion. My job roles include managing the finance budgets, event management for training courses, answering training enquiries and updating and creating infonet pages

    3/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt how to create infonet pages for our internal site via internal training courses and I have been on a number of CS training courses including presentation skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I don't enjoy it. I work 40 miles from home and the team I work with are overly critical and are not supportive. I can't wait to finish and I have a job lined up for when I do leave.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Civil Service?
  • Not at all, my team do not respect my opinions and over rule me at any point they can. Considering I am at a managers grade the work I do and the way the team speak to me does not reflect that.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I thought with it being a high profile CS programme it would be well organised, how wrong I was. The recruitment process was unorganised and the selection process was a joke. I was told that since I didn't score as high as others on the tests I cant work in my home town or preferred location. From what I've been told by tutors the scheme is becoming even more unorganised so it must be bad!

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have to attend a class every month to learn about the next unit after that there is no contact if I need help. One of the tutors was really helpful but he was relocated. I also has to attend some mandatory training course which had no relevance what so ever.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • None what so ever. Staff say they are willing to help but never do. They just try and pile their workload on me so I barely get time to do my coursework. When I have raised the issue of time I've been told "that's the way it is"

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • If I wasn't on the salary I am on I would of left a long time ago. Even then my fuel expenditure is £200 per month. The salary has become irrelevant at this point because I wouldn't do the work I do for any amount of money.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The only ones I am in is the Civil Service Sports Club and we get a day to volunteer. To participate in a CS sports event I have to take it as annual leave and to volunteer it has to be something related to the CPS so I may as well just come into work.

    2/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Civil Service to a friend?
  • No

  • 9b. Why?
  • Because the work is degrading, and when you challenge things or try to change the way work is done you get criticised. No aspect of progression and I wouldn't want one of my friends to be in a job which is the same day in day out with no variety or interest what so ever.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Civil Service?
  • Don't waste your time, go and find something else.
