  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Technical Trainee. I Model in 3D on computer programs and do CAD drawings. I have also been able to get involved with structural engineering tasks the more experienced I get.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed a lot. This includes team work, communication, time management and working in a office environment, I have done a lot of internal training courses and attended talks. I have already achieved my NVQ and am nearly done with my BETC Level 3 in Civil Engineering,

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • At first it wasn't quite what I expected, however as time has gone on I have come to terms with this and have enjoyed my time here. working in a team and meeting new people has been fun and I enjoy the soacials we have.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Arup?
  • I feel quite valued. However sometimes I think some people who don't know me underestimate my ability. It would also be nice to have some recognition.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very well organised by work and has a good structure. However the college is a bit of a shambles.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is support but I wouldn't necessarily take it from college but rather work.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • There is a lot of support available if I need it.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I still live at home so my costs are not that high which is fortunate. However I think we get paid a low wage compared to some places and considering the abilities we have gained. this is particularly difficult as I live in London where a lot of things are expensive (like travel and living costs.)

  • There are, but sometimes the company can be bias.

  • Yes

  • It is a great place to work with a lot of opportunities to develop as a person as well as work wise.
