1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

My Job title is Structural Trainee, during my work daily tasks include, drafting and modelling in 3D/2D on various projects, communicating with colleagues/engineers for mark-ups and work, communicating with friends about their projects, communicating with people on the phone from different offices for markups etc. Responsibilities are making sure that all work given to me is completed, and keep with the deadline.

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

First year of Nationals Construction, Been to Revit courses (3D software) and CAD courses received a certificate. Great understanding in programs such as Revit and GSA, I can draft in 3D/2D also I can do some structural calculations and sketches.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

Challenging yet fun work to keep up with, great team to support me, flexible company culture everyone will help you even people higher in the company, exceeded my expectations and I enjoy the program heavily.

4. How valued do you feel by Arup?

I feel very valued as when they bring me into a team they involve me heavily by giving me work, also they are pleased when I complete work as it takes of some of the workload for ourselves, I am mainly valued in 3D/2D drafting as it is where I can use my skills I have acquired.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

Induction was very organised, training is also organised with dates and times, everything is organised so far such as studying and task delegation as we have charts and rotas.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

I receive main support from my engineering mentor and my technician mentor, with both college and work, which helps me verily as I am complying with deadlines from work and college.

I receive support all round mainly from my mentors tho.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

covers more than enough at the age I currently am (just turned 17) however this might change when I have to start paying adult prices for buses/tubes and start paying rent.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

There is a variety of opportunities such as learning courses, events, in fact I am going Madrid with our Arup football team, so it is also very social and educational.

9. Would you recommend Arup to a friend?

Yes

9b. Why?

You can earn whilst you learn, however the education you receive is completely advanced and very restricted if you were to take the normal route which I think is a huge benefit, plus the hands on job experience is amazing with the support that is provided.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Arup?

No matter what be confident in what you do, and also do not be afraid to ask questions and be more social/network more to allow more opportunities to occur.
