  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I work for the service management department, where I have had a lot of experience in multiple roles. These have included problem management and change management, where my daily responsibility involved guiding problems and changes to a positive and productive conclusion, reporting statistics from the departments and developing rapport with team members and management alike. My current is focused on the admin side of our ServiceNow toolset; which will be my permanent position on completion of the Apprenticeship. This is an important tool used for reporting, meaning I have lots to do on a daily basis. I have had lots of training to understand the system. The role is also much more technical than the other positions.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I had never previously had any experience in this department, neither had I heard of any of the roles involved. The placement has been fantastic for opening my eyes to previously undiscovered opportunities and skillsets. I have had extensive training on each department. The course itself provides training and qualifications, plus any courses I required for my personal development within the team have been graciously provided.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am very happy with my programme. QA are an amazing provider, unlike previous experiences I have had with my previous apprenticeship. I was originally worried about my placement, as I had no experience previous in this line of work. But my team was very open to helping me feel more confident and welcome. I very quickly became accustomed to the required work, and have a great understanding of my path. The company is very ahead in its views on employees. Everyone is very friendly and open, which conduces an amazing work atmosphere. I had heard good things about it prior to getting my apprenticeship, but I did not expect it to be as enjoyable as I I have found thus far.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Fidelity International?
  • As previously mentioned, Fidelity has great ethics when it comes to its employees, and creates a positive work environment that everyone highly appreciates. My team has spent a lot of time training me for my position, but have not pushed me too hard too quickly, making sure I'm coping well and enjoying my position. Other teams are also happy to help. I've had a lot of experience talking to new people across the company, and everyone is positive and productive. The company itself often holds talks to keep everyone informed. New ideas are encouraged to improve the work environment, and people are constantly rewarded for hard work and effort. I personally have been involved in one initiative recently called ignites, which got teams working together to solve problems in creative ways. It brought us all closer together. I felt my help was heavily appreciated, and I even got a certificate to show a visual and formal thanks for my efforts.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have a plan for my journey both during and after my apprenticeship, designed by my managers to ensure I know where I am aiming my self improvement. Originally this plan was minimal and took some time to produce, and I did have some time where I did not know exactly what was required of me. but, I am the first apprentice on the department, so they were also learning! everyone involved in my training is easy to talk to and get hold of if required. I am given time to study and complete assignments during work, and any required training is not difficult to get hold of.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • My assessor is very helpful. He is open to questions, and constantly improving himself after any criticism. I find he is easy to talk to, and has a positive attitude whenever we talk. Any feedback is taken very seriously, positive and negative, and I feel they really care about my achieving all I can.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Everyone in my team is open to helping me. They always find out how I'm doing, and if I require anything. I also have multiple people outside my team I can contact if I need extra help, or if I have a problem I cannot go to my team to solve. Everyone is very understanding, and there is definitely no shortage of support.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My current salary is the most I've ever had in any position. I have working in many retail positions, and had an apprenticeship previously. I currently get more than enough for all my expenditures. And, many work expenses are paid back by Fidelity; such as travel.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Fidelity has many initiatives to improve the lives of its employees and the local areas. Plus, they also encourage people to come up with their own ideas to hold their own events. There are exercise programmes, team building days, local art events, fundraisers; the list goes on. These are constantly reported and advertised on our e-mails. Its amazing how much you can do here other than work, and how much they care about your wellbeing and happiness.
