  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am responsible for running the Demand & Capability Service within Test Services which involves ensuring a database is updated with project/test dates and applications on a weekly basis, ensuring potential environment contentions are discussed & resolved and MI is produced showing all projects being worked on across the department. My role also involves designing and agreeing new processes for my service and communicating them to the rest of the team. My team are also responsible for reviewing and approving all non-production Change Requests. I also have people management responsibilities for 5 permanent colleagues across two sites.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt new information about People Management and the wider role of HR in the organisation and I have learnt additional information about Diversity & Inclusion and the roles & responsibilities around these issues. I have also been able to present to my assessor and talk in detail about my role and why it is important.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I have found that I have really enjoyed the programme. It is always a pleasure to see my assessor who is very supportive and helpful. She provides great encouragement and makes my contribution feel valued.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Co-op?
  • I feel very valued working here and I also feel that the additional voluntary work I do outside my normal role is also valued, seen by other people outside my immediate team

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured so that I can see what progress is being made and I always receive updates whenever my assessor visits. Due to my work commitments, or meetings tend to be quite flexible and mutually agreed. My assessor always attends on time & is positive and enthusiastic

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • As mentioned above, my training provider is very helpful and positive. In addition, they provide information about additional resources, where to look for more information and extra help on how to complete the IT exam. Mock papers are also provided to help my learning

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I am given time to complete my training modules though some work is also done in my own time. My employer was supportive in me starting the programme and it is on my signed-off Personal Development Plan.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • On my salary, I find that I am able to pay for all the things I need such as accommodation, living and commuting costs plus I have money for some luxuries too.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of opportunities to do things outside work from social events with the team, fund-raising for charities, networking with employee network groups and networking opportunities with other local companies.

  • 9. Would you recommend Co-op to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • They are very supportive of everyone and have an inclusive culture. I like that they do so much work and fundraising for local and national charities and are a large local employer led by ethics and values. They always do the right thing and put the customer first.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Co-op?
  • Be yourself. They are a diverse company who value individuals and the contribution we can all make. Although my interview was quite tough, the on-boarding and induction experiences were fantastic. The company is full of really friendly people.
