  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Training for an A license. This involves studying for module exams and practical assessments in the workshops. All this is done working along side expert engineers who are of the highest standard.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have so far developed a lot of hand skills in the workshop. I now have the ability to do certain tasks on my own with full capability.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I couldn't be anymore happier with my programme with Thomson. My team mates are like family now and we all get along through the ups and downs.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Thomson Airlines?
  • I feel extremely valued. We keep contact with our managers when we are away from base and they even come to visit us to make sure everything is ok and we are getting on fine.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • We had an induction day where we met our team mates and saw the hangar for the first time. All information is clearly given to us with any questions about it responded to promptly.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • If we require support, it is there for us. All we have to do is ask (that is if we haven't already been asked).

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • We get a lot of support from Thomson such as home visits each month and accommodation when we are in training.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well. Although we don't earn a lot of money, it is more than an average part time job and it is comfortable to live on and use for savings.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • We have the opportunities to travel with discount when we have been with the company for a 1 year +

  • 9. Would you recommend Thomson Airlines to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Because of the professional environment where everyone is treated fairly. Everyone is given a chance to prove themselves and progress to higher levels of engineering.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Thomson Airlines?
  • Get lots of varied work experience so you know exactly what you want to do. It isn't for the average engineer, I believe it is essential for there to be a passion for aircraft and hunger to work for such a successful company.
