  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a project controller at BAE Systems and my role consists of working with data to ensure that individuals within the business are booking their time to contract correctly. I interact with several people within my team to agree certain bookings.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am currently studying a degree in project management (1st Year) I have developed skills on how to write an assignment effectively. Within work I have built up Microsoft Excel skills significantly since beginning the company.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoy my programme, it has allowed me to gain and build skills within project control. The company has offered an excellent scheme whereby myself and peers can study for a degree part time as well as working full time - certainly meeting my expectations.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • I feel very valued as a worker of BAE Systems. I have a good working relationship with my peers, lime manager and scheme manager. I feel as though I am valued as a person opposed to just a number in the company.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The induction was slightly lengthy, however the point was very clear of what was expected by us as employees at BAE. Training has exceeded my expectations and everyone is usually very happy to help with any queries. One day a week I study at Blackpool University Centre for my degree which is well structured and organised.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive help in training in all aspects of my course. My college tutors are especially supportive in the help they bring to the degree course - taking time to help students outside of the classroom.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a significant amount of support from my line manager and others around me including the scheme manager. There is always someone to talk to if there is an issue with anything.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • brilliantly well paid - meets all expectations. Travel costs are supported if you are working away on company business - as well as living costs if you live on base.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes, there are plenty of opportunities to get involved to represent the company outside of work, including air shows & road shows. There is also a gym associated with BAE to maintain fitness.

  • Yes

  • Excellent and highly rated employer and treat every member of staff with respect - no matter what the circumstances. There are many opportunities to develop your career.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • Be confident when it comes to interviews - they are interested in you as a person and what you could bring to the company. I would have liked to know that the assessment day isn't as intense as I initially thought - the employers interviewing are relaxed and make you feel welcome.
