  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As an apprentice I manage the tills in store by serving customers and ensure they receive the best service standard and I also provide the same level of service on the shop floor. Also once a week I arrive to the store early and help with the delivery that has arrived at the store to fill up the shelves before opening and making sure all overs are returned to the warehouse, so we have the stock on hand if it is needed. I also put stock out on the shop floor when it has been pulled from the warehouse so the gaps on the shop floor are filled and this is a daily activity.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have developed new skills such as gaining confidence with customers and being able to talk to them and helping them with what they are looking for. I can also put stock out on the shop floor and know where it is located so I can put stock out with accuracy. I can also pull stock from the warehouse, so if a section needs to be gutted I can put the stock onto trolleys and then put it out on the shop floor and then return the overs to the warehouse and put the, away.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I really enjoyed the programme as it was something new to learn, so I enjoyed being involved in the different tasks that are involved in running the store like promotion changes. I have also enjoyed getting to know the other members of staff in store and they have helped me whenever I have been lost or confused.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Superdrug?
  • I feel valued by the company because I have been involved with tasks that I thought only management would handle like safe checks and pulling stock from the warehouse, so instead of just doing 1 task I have been involved in a range of them.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured as it breaks the learning down into manageable chunks and having a leaner booklet that is colour coded is very helpful as it is the easy to see what information applies to which section. However some of the questions in the booklets were a bit confusing as the questions weren't explained clearly enough and some of the questions were repetitive.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have received a lot of support from my training provider when my assessor has visited and have had problems with a few of the questions and also have received support over email if I have struggled with questions that needed to be done for the next visit.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Ever since I have started I have received a lot of support from the staff at the store as they have all told ,e exactly what needs to be done before I carry out a task to ensure that I understand what needs to be done. They have also assisted me if I have become stuck while doing it. Also if I encountered any problems while on the till or shop floor they have helped me and then have told me what to do if I am ever in a similar experience situation even if it is just for help if I don't have the information.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary has met my costs as I live at home with my parents, but since starting my apprenticeship I have been paying housekeeping money as I live there and there is enough money left over for me to buy food and any other necessities I may need.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are opportunities outside of the store as you have the opportunity to move to a different store that may be more suited to your needs and may also offer you a promotion. Also having an apprenticeship can offer you more job opportunities outside of superdrug as companies will see you as more employable if you have the experience

  • 9. Would you recommend Superdrug to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I have found over the year that is a very good company to work for and as well as providing the customers with the service they expect they are also a company who are always looking for new ways to change what we do and provide the customers with something new so we are their first choice shop on the high street and gain loyal customers because of it.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Superdrug?
  • I would say make sure working in retail is what you really want to do and have the right attitude to do it. Make sure you put everything into what you are doing and always go into work with a smile on your face so customers will see you as friendly and approachable and ready to help them.
