  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am and engineering Technician At BAE systems which involves spending a year doing basic fitting training and then progressing on to my day job as a technician working in an office dealing with data and information designing and looking at the theoretical side of the engineering

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • i have learnt lots of new skills from basic hand fitting ones to CAD and electrical skills which i didn't previously have, as well as this i have learnt communications skills and document/report writing skills

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • i have thoroughly enjoyed it, i spent a year in a hotel all expenses paid, then i have met lots of new friends and colleagues through this process also i have had lots of other opportunities such as meeting GB Olympic athletes and outward bound courses

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BAE Systems?
  • i feel like any other member of full time and fully qualified staff, i get to work on current projects and work and not just do mundane task such as filing also i have had the opportunity to develop myself

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • the program is very well structured from start to finish, your first year is scheduled, you have a plan and then after this your plan is tailored to you and yours skill/interests

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • we receive a lot of support from out training team, we get regular reviews, also we can give them feedback and have email dialogues with them for any issues which get resolved quickly and efficiently

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • we receive a lot of support from out training team, we get regular reviews, also we get a visit at least once a weeks to have a general catchup and to see how things are going and if there is anything that we require

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • the wage is very good for an apprenticeship, and the wage increases are rewarding, when looking at costs you could always wish for more and especially by the end of the apprenticeship you need a higher wage as it is four years you could be 24+ and at this age when you want to move out you need a wage that can support this

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • there are lots of opportunity's outside of work to get involved in sports and other extra curricular activities for STEM and for community projects similar to what is done in the first year

  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • it is a great apprenticeship with a good wage good experience and you can gain a degree from it if you so wish to, they are a global company offering opportunities both here and abroad


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BAE Systems?
  • when applying it is important to be humble, do your research on the company and its history, realise the size of the opportunity. when looking to bring a project make sure it is something you are confident to talk about and take questions on as you are in a room wit qualified engineers they will soon spot a fraud.
