Technician placement at BAE Systems Warton or Salmesbury, there are 4 initial training placements (fitting, electrical, CAD and turning/milling) we then go on site and work in placements around the workplace, these are extremely varied and could range from sub assemblies, assemblies or testing/design.
I have learned many new skills while undertaking this apprenticeship, this includes not only specialisation knowledge, but also basic knowledge, such as house wiring and using tools.
I thoroughly enjoy the work done and have enjoyed aspects of all placements. The company treats employees fairly and equally and this provides a comfortable environment to work in.
Constant reviews are done by tutors and managers to ensure we get the praise and feedback we need, also people higher in the company constantly reinforce how much apprentices are needed.
The programme is clearly laid out and the overall structure is good and simple, alongside this it has been made clear at which points in the course pay rises will be given and where positions will be.
Tutors are very approachable and can be asked about most issues. They will make best efforts to help and if they can not they will seek the appropriate person needed.
HR and other contacts are easily reachable through company email. Most matters can be dealt with by talking to someone in the training centre however other contacts are available and will reply promptly.
I currently travel around 20 miles to work and can afford to run a car and make the journey. I still live with parents however I have enough disposable income at the end of the month to be comfortable.
There are many company events that can be attended and the company provides opportunities such as football teams and rugby teams. There is a flying club and model flying club.
