  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My role varies massively as we do rotational placements all over the place. Mostly my work in those departments involves assisting/shadowing whomever Is my placement manager, this can range from stripping down and refurbishing electric motors to creating VBA code powered spreadsheets.

    8/10

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Absolutely, some departments more than others but I have developed a vast array of skills from my broad placement locations and business areas.

    8/10

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy my apprenticeship, some departments more than others as the work varies and the amount of time my placement managers can give me varies.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Siemens?
  • Very, it has been made abundantly clear by my line manager, colleagues and many senior managers that we are to be the future of the company and therefore but be trained appropriately.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Now very, prior to our current line managers involvement in the scheme it was a bit messy but since then it has got better and better every year as the creases are ironed out and more value can be added to it.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Our college leaves something to be desired, we have Siemens kit in there that we have never used and most of the tutors seems so lazy and disinterested in actually teaching that we don't end up really learning much, just ticking a box. I've learnt far more at work than at college.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lots, I have a mentor and line manager whom I can speak to alongside plenty of supportive colleagues.

    9/10

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I feel like my current wage does reflect my current responsibilities and pressures however it is not really enough to live alone on (I'm still at my parent's house). I would prefer a higher wage while feeling like I was contributing more to the company. Unfortunately this is difficult due to the placement scheme we have set up meaning most placements are too short to really add much value.

    7/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are many CSR and volunteering activities as well as clubs and social meets available outside work.

    7/10

  • 9. Would you recommend Siemens to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • As apprenticeships go you would be hard pressed to find much better. Some may pay more or be easier or more interesting but ours is a good balance of all of those and most keyly we have a choice of our job role at the end. We are not being trained for A JOB we are being trained for A PROFFESSION which I believe puts us in a much better position than those in a traditional apprenticeship.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Siemens?
  • Siemens looks for people who are genuinely interested in their subject fields and has a passion for it, they will see straight through anyone who has applied on a whim.
