  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Currently my role is to notify engineers of any incoming problems / issues - and assign these problems to them. Also I'm starting to try my hand in the technical side - attempting to actually fix these issues myself.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • The list is ever-growing and very long. I came into this role with very little knowledge of programming. I can now log into servers and fix errors / identify them without any help of an instruction guide. But the main skill out of all of this I have learned is the ability to adapt and think of solutions on your own. For example for some incidents the fix isn't right in front of you, you have to go digging in order to find it / fix it. Along side the job role I have QA training which allows me to get Microsoft mta qualifications.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I couldn't be happier. The team I work in are all very nice, always up for a laugh. Never a dull day when there's so much to do

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • I have 1 to 1's with my manager every month where he provides feedback on all my positives, what I've been doing well which is really pleasing and motivating to see. I am never left out of jobs just because I'm an apprentice - they ask me at every possible situation if I want to be involved in someway.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • At the start it was a little all over the place in terms of getting everything that was needed to start (security clearance & induction) but once that was out of the way its been fine ever since. We are the first ITO apprentices they've had so it's understandable. They provide me with whatever I need - I like the system of 6 weeks of work, then 2 weeks of training. Overall good.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • QA are an amazing training provider. Their trainers are outstanding - going into it I was a bit nervous because of the whole idea of a "school" but it's nothing like it. The trainers are always joking about while still teaching us to a high level which is nice - not like we are doing 9-5 writing into our books. They help with any problems we may have - and always have a positive attitude towards us.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have an instant communication to my manager if needed - It feels like if I have any problems what so ever they will be dealt with straight away without hesitation. They provide us with all we need to get going with our jobs - and continuous support through the program.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Fairly good - could be better. I'ts £25 to get the bus here a week so that eats up a significant portion of the wage. Along with general living costs such as food, gym membership, phones it doesn't leave a lot in disposable income.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Plenty - there are always people planning nights out and trips away. There's plenty of office sweepstake style events where you throw in £2 and have a chance of winning some prizes - All of the money gets donated to charity. There's football after work, the list is endless.

  • 9. Would you recommend Hewlett Packard Enterprise to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • Overall a brilliant company - you will feel right at home. I'd go on and on about reasons but it all comes down to the question of would you be happy? - And the answer would be yes.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • Going through the interviews don't just sit in the corner and talk to nobody - interact with other's, show that you're willing to chat and show your character. Your qualifications may be of a lower standard as others - but if you're more outgoing then you have a very good chance of being accepted. Assuming you get the job be patient in the first couple of weeks - nobody likes the on boarding process sitting through countless presentations on topics like health and safety. Just keep your head up and wait till you're on your account - that's when the good stuff starts.
