1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I on-board and open accounts for corporate clients existing and new. Also I assist them with any queries they have such as account closure. Finally I help my relationship managers to maintain the relationship with the clients
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I have gained the professional banker certificate and am going to receive an apprenticeship in providing financial services. Also I have developed my confidence in this job role both with and without customers
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
My team are nice and some people support me a lot. We go out after work roughly once a month as a team. I enjoy my work and I enjoy speaking to my customers, however RBS gives negatives a lot more than positives.
4. How valued do you feel by RBS?
Not very, RBS is going through a lot of changes and getting rid of teams so I don't feel like my job is very secure and that RBS view apprentices as a burden as they feel obliged to take them
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
My induction was two days but in my opinion it wasn't long enough and a lot of the things covered are irrelevant as the standard they expect wasn't covered along with information about the apprenticeship. Also there is no apprentice network and RBS haven't tried to create one so we can't go to each other for help.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
I have a tutor with BPP and she is available if I have any problems or need assistance. However when preparing for the exam we weren't provided with very good materials and the online sessions provided contradicted the textbook
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
During studying for my exam RBS granted me one day off every week so I could study. Now I have passed the exam I get one day off every other week for coursework, and my team are willing to help when I have questions
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
My salary meets my costs as I am able to commute to London from Wokingham and still have money left for savings, holidays, going out and gym membership
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
My floor has a netball team I can join, also if I wanted I could join virgin active in London at a reduced rate as I get employee discount with RBS. Apprentices also have the opportunity to talk in schools and at inductions
9a. Would you recommend RBS to a friend? *
9b. Why? *
A lot of people don't understand that I am still young and still learning, also people can be very quick to criticise but don't often give praise for good work
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to RBS? *
I would have liked to be told that the role I am in is back office instead of front, also I would advise new joiners to be quiet as the work environment is a quiet place.
