  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Level 3 Strategic Support Analyst - My current role is the re-constructing of HPE's current escalation process. Currently HPE and their 3rd party clients all use different Escalation Processes as you can imagine this causes a lot of disagreement to what is actually a Escalation as each company has a different criteria. So I am currently designing a Process which suits each three parties involved. To get the information I needed to make this process work successfully I had to have numerous meeting with external parties to gather an understanding of what they thought was a valid escalation and what wasn't. Once I had done this I got to the stage I am currently at now making a draft template of how I think the process should work. Once I have completed my template I will present this to my manager before I present to external parties to make sure they agree this is the correct way to approach the project.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since starting to work at HPE I have realised the company is very presentation based. I feel my presentational skills have improved dramatically from being un-confident and nervous of public speaking I now feel able to talk comfortably and confidentially about the work I am presenting. I also feel my technical skills have improved due to my first role of Incident Analyst I had hands on experience of dealing with live incidents which made me a more technically able employee.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I am currently very happy at HPE, I feel settled and comfortable with the work I do and the people I work with. I feel I could maybe be giving more responsibility as many times I have requested this and have been given little extra tasks but would like to take ownership of more tasks.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • In my previous roles I didn't feel of much value to HPE as I didn't have great deal of knowledge or experience but in my current role I feel I have an important role as I do a lot of client faced work which shows I am trusted to deal with clients of the company.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel the training provided was very good by QA Apprenticeships the tutors and training provided was too a very good standard. I do have a big concern in when we applied for the apprenticeship program we were promised a yearly wage increase to £19,000 when we completed the program and now we have been told this could potentially not be the case and we are currently waiting to hear what rises we are going to be given if any.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Throughout the apprenticeship program we were provided support from QA whenever we needed it, you could contact numerous members of there team if you had an issue or needed guidance.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have monthly meetings with my people manager just to go through the last months work and discuss any potential issues I have, if I have any immediate issues my people manager is very accessible and always willing to listen to any issues we have.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Looking around at other apprenticeships I feel my apprenticeship is very well paid but I also feel for the amount of work I do compared to people around me who do the same job I should be paid a substantial more amount of money. With our apprenticeships finishing at the end of this month I am hoping to get the pay rise which was promised but I am un-confident we will get this due to how badly the apprenticeship manager has communicated with us in the recent weeks/months. I live around 35 minutes away from work I spend £40 a week on petrol, I have £120 month of board to pay + other bills which take my total outgoings to nearly £500. This is why I feel a large pay rise is essential at the end of the apprenticeship.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • HPE are a very active company by this I mean there is plenty to get involved in! I currently play for the work's football team. I have volunteered for charity events and other volunteer work.

  • 9. Would you recommend Hewlett Packard Enterprise to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would because you gain good, well recognised qualifications from the apprenticeship. The experience you gain from the working side is very beneficial as not only do you increase your technical skills but your people skills. There is many opportunities in HPE I think this is a good thing as you can always change roles to stop working becoming tedious.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Hewlett Packard Enterprise?
  • Be confident, speak clearly using the correct English (no slang). Come dressed appropriately (not jeans), when filling in the application process take time thinking about your answer use as much detail as you possibly can.
