  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Technician as part of a mechanical team on Heysham Power Station. Shadow other members of the team, taking in and assisting them on their work. Occassional put in charge of a job and guided as experience.

  • Always learnign new skills from other members of the team. I rotate around teams too so have an insight as to how other teams work and their skills.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy my work and the people I work with. Everyone is different and individuals and I enjoy being challenged by the work I complete.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EDF?
  • Very, I know how much they invest in my learning and I see the outcome of that investment everyday. I feel a valued member of any team I am in and am included in any meetings like a qualified technician.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very structured, I am made aware of any changes in the program and company. My apprenticeship consists of training both onsite and offsite, with both a recognised qualification and an edf specific one.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • Lots of support, I am reviewed periodically to check progress on qualifactions as well as to check my personal progr4ess and happiness within the company.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Lot of support, I recieve monthly reviews by my team leader which comment on progress made and I can ask any questions I have whenever I want. They are flexible with me and I feel that I can be honest if I come across any issues.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • Very well, the salary is substantial and meets my needs at the minute. I enjoy having spare money to spend on things or save rather than ebing in debt.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Many opportunities have been shown to us. We recieve emails about them and are encouraged to try even if we do not have experience, such as last year when we were encouraged to attend an edf fishing contest.

  • Yes

  • It is a great company to work for which I am very lucky and grateful to be with. They actively support your progress and push you to achieve the best you can.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EDF?
  • Push youself to get the best possible result you can, apply yourself and strive to be the very best. If unsucessful, try again, it is one of the best companies to be a part of.
