My role as a trainee accountant involves me assisting in both management account and bookkeeping accounts. Here I create reports, manage financial data and discuss information with colleagues.
I've been able to develop my attention to detail, and I have learned to develop budgeting skills for my own finances. One of the new skills I have learnt is to make sure to be prudent and accurate with my numbers.
I enjoy the programme thoroughly. I am highly interested in the work that I do, and I feel as if I am evolving each day.
I feel as though each of my colleagues are my friends. I know that I am valued by the company and that my work does affect how the company is represented.
The training programme itself does give you options of what to study, and trainers do advise on when the programme should finish. I think more detail could be given regarding the structure of the trainee's study load.
Whenever I am in need of help I know I can email them or go to them. So far they have been able to answer my every question, whether about the training programme or future aspirations.
My employer supports me through feedback on my work and logical discussions such as tax, excel, etc. It is a different way of taking this support, but it is effective none the less.
The pay may be low at first, but then you expect these apprenticeships to be taken as an investment as well as an opportunity to work. I am still able to pay my rent and save monthly, whilst still having a little cash to spend on the side.
In terms of academic opportunities there is when you go searching for it, however the opportunities are still limited. I find in terms of work opportunities such as working in other areas or businesses to be lacking, when this knowledge could open your mind for your own job.
Yes
It's a friendly atmosphere to work in, it's cheaper than going to university, and you'll find you learn a lot from it.
The first few months may be hard, and you'll make plenty of mistakes, but remember everyone's been there before and eventually you'll learn to check your work before sending it out.
