Mostly completing University assignments and preparing for exams. The condensed University course means that there is a heavy workload throughout the scheme. In between periods of University you attend various companies from the Broadcast Industry where you will gain work experience.
I have gained a lot from completing this course including a BEng in Broadcast Engineering and Computer Science recognised by the IET, CCNA training, IET membership as well as on the job experience and training such as health and safety and PAT testing courses.
I enjoy my programme very much, the team I have been working with for the past 3 years have become my very close friends, everyone I've met on placement has been very friendly and I've developed a lot as a person and an employee
I feel very valued at the BBC, we are often invited to take part in events to represent the BBC. The have taken us to conferences abroad and provided training whenever we need it. I have always been treated with respect whilst on work placements.
As I was a part of the first intake of my particular course, there has been some issues mostly regarding the amount of workload given to us by university and the time we are given to complete it. We have given feedback on these issues and I believe they have been ironed out for future intakes
Tutors are always available by email or phone, as well as being assigned to a mentor from the industry that can give impartial advice for our careers and University work. However, just because they are contactable doesn't mean that tutors are going to be able to solve your problem.
My manager and his team have always been able to help when a situation arrises. Appraisals are given once a year and he often comes to meet us for dinner when we are travelling in order to catch up and see how we are doing
The salary for this course is very reasonable considering that the University Fees are paid for as well as accommodation and expenses whilst away from base. I have been able to live alone in my flat comfortably.
There a lots of events to take part in offered by the BBC but there aren't any that are particularly tailored to young people. Lots of opportunities to volunteer for shows like sports relief and comic relief
Yes
I have enjoyed working for the BBC and they have always treated me with respect. The workplace is exciting and interesting with something happening all the time. You also get the opportunity to work with the latest technology.
I know it's cliched but be yourself in the interview. The hiring manager wants you to do well and wont be trying to trick you but a little preparation goes a long way in making you feel confident and comfortable with the interview.
