  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a maintenance engineer - my daily tasks can range from cleaning and painting, to covering press lines; often mechanical or electrical breakdowns.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learnt many new skills - I have been on some training courses, including fork lift truck driving, working at height training and correct use of ladders training. I have also learned all of my engineering knowledge during this apprenticeship. I had no prior engineering experience before becoming an apprentice.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy all aspects of the apprenticeship. The work is varied and challenging, the skilled men are all willing to help and ensure that I'm learning and capable of doing the job.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BMW Group?
  • I do feel valued by the managers and the work team in general.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is very well structured, and is headed by the most organised person I've met. They ensure that I am also in a good position to learn and regularly schedule meetings with me so that I can validate that the placement is correct for my learning needs.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is a lot of support given by the skilled men on the job, they ensure that I am picking up the skills needed to pass the apprenticeship and get a job after the 4 years are up.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • The employer supports me well by providing all of the neccessary facilities and training that I need to complete the apprenticeship and any jobs I may be required to do.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary meets my costs well, and I'm very well paid considering I'm an apprentice.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are company events every year, and the company provides discounts on certain leisure activities. The skilled men also organise events outside of work to celebrate birthdays or christmas - or anything else really.

  • 9. Would you recommend BMW Group to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • It comes with a bunch of perks, I feel like I have job security and the skills learned will be very useful IF I need to look for another job in the future.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to BMW Group?
  • Apply and just try your best, even if you aren't based in engineering at the moment, you can surprise yourself and pick it up without any prior knowledge.
