1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
I am currently in my first year of the Engineering Maintenance Apprenticeship which is a four-year programme. I am currently training to gain the skills required to maintain power stations which could be a coal, gas or nuclear plant which are situated around the UK. Upon completion, I'll be awarded an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Certificate in Engineering, and I will also receive a BTEC and an NVQ Level 3, with the potential for further education.
2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
I am currently working towards an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship Certificate in Engineering, and I will also receive a BTEC and an NVQ Level 3, with the potential for further education. Currently I am doing my training at Babcock Academy where I am learning to gain the skills required to maintain power stations and become an maintenance engineer.
3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
I am proud to be a part of EDF Energy as I feel it is a great company to work for and the training I am receiving is second to none. I feel no other apprenticeship is able to offer an apprenticeship anywhere near the standards of EDF Energy. I enjoy the training and I am learning new things everyday.
4. How valued do you feel by EDF Energy?
I feel very valued by EDF Energy knowing how much money they put into each apprentice and into the apprenticeship scheme.
5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
It is a very well thought out and structured programme. Inductions were thorough and informative giving you everything you needed to know. There is 24 hour support everyday and whenever you need it.
6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
Tutors are always there for you if you need any support, advice and help. They have a lot of experience and can guide you when you are stuck and need any help.
6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
There is constant support from managers and the HR team as they all want the best for you. Anything you want to ask they are there for you.
7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
EDF Energy pay for our accommodation and travel to and from the training academy. This is great and really helpful . As well as this meals are paid for at the training academy as well.
8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
There is plenty of opportunities to get involved in and put yourself forward for. There is French classes available every week as well a gym and leisure facilities.

I feel EDF Energy is a great company to work for and their training is second to none. I feel no other apprenticeship can offer you what EDF Energy offer in their apprenticeships which makes them stand out as one of the best apprenticeship schemes to be a part of.
10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EDF Energy? *
To make sure they are suitably prepared for the assessments and the interview stage. Make sure you have researched the company and know what EDF Energy are about.
