  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am an apprentice for EDF Energy. On a daily basis, I get up and board a bus to the place where I train, to start my training for the day, i do a range of subjects which all link to Engineering or EDF Energy in some way. I enjoy it.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a lot of new skills which i did not know how to do before. I am in the middle of doing multiple BTEC's and NVQ's to achieve the qualifications needed to become a qualified engineer.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy this program a lot, I have met loads of new people and I am training to work on a Nuclear Power Station, it is very, very good. This apprenticeship has met my expectations a lot, I knew it would be a challenge and so far it has delivered while also being enjoyable.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by EDF?
  • I feel very valued within EDF Energy, I am praised for doing well in my qualifications by my Station Coordinator and my instructors have praised me on multiple occasions. I feel like I am very valued.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I feel like this program i am on is very structured and organised. With each subject, I am first introduced to it before moving steadily on to the harder parts. I have a lot of support if I need it off my instructors.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I achieve a lot of support from my training supervisor. I feel free to ask any question wether big or small as I'm confident that my instructors will be able to answer it. All instructors seem happy to help and pass on knowledge.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a lot of support from my employer. If I ever need anything, all I have to do is Email my Station coordinator and she will answer any question/ try her best to support me. I also can go to my manager for any support if needed.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary which I receive on a monthly basis is a very good salary for a first year apprentice. All my accommodation, meals and travel are also paid for by EDF Energy for the two years I am living away from home which is excellent.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are a lot of different activities outside of work from sports such as football to shopping too pretty much anything really. There is a lot around and there is never a reason to be bored.

  • 9. Would you recommend EDF to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend this apprenticeship to a friend as it is very very good, I am being paid to learn. I mean, how amazing is that? After this apprenticeship, there is a possibility of achieving a job as well which would be perfect.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to EDF?
  • To others wanting to apply, I would say, don't hesitate. Apply as soon as you can if Engineering interests you. It is an amazing opportunity. The application process can be tricky but if you try your best you'll be fine!
