  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Well as I'm an apprentice I am allocated a certain amount of time from one part of the company to the next, so that I can have a fair view of what the company does and how it all works. Depending on the area I work with and a certain team or individual in the tasks they are doing at the time. whether it be assembly work or test work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gain a lot of experience as I have worked from one place to the next. Some of which I have learnt at college and then I'm applying it to work and some I am new too. I have received relevant training in the company as well as outside. I'm currently doing a L3 BTEC diploma in engineering at college, whilst I have a NVQ qualification that I do whilst I'm at work. I've also done test such as ESD (Electrostatic Discharge) training, FOD (Foreign Object Damage) training and my IPC training in the working and practice of soldering.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Leonardo?
  • I feel very value, as I am a start to a new up and coming work for my company. this is due to demand for more apprentices and employees because of the amount of work for that will be parting the company for retirement. Hopefully before that time I and my fellow apprentices will be able to learn for the valued employees that have been working here for years and hope to do as good of a job as them.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is structured when it comes to the college dates and what placement that you are doing around the company. A big benefit is that there is a lot of flexibility in the structure for extension in placements as well as moving placement early.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I have been with my training provider for some time, even before I started my apprenticeship and I have said before that the training that the company expects can be lacking in certain areas as the equipment, technology and staff (especially) can be limited. although over time it has been improved, I am yet to be satisfied completely.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • as of today I am still living with my parents and I am looking to move out unfortunately I'm unsure on the cost that would amount to so I am saving up, waiting till my pay raise. The general cost of the apprenticeship is fairer that other apprenticeships that I know of. I don't find myself lacking for money when it comes to living, travel, daily and social costs.
