  • I am currently in the second year of the commercial school leaver scheme working in the product planning department. In my final year I will have spent it working in 3 different areas to the prior year. • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Since September of last year I have definitely improved my presentation skills. I worked on a competitor analysis piece from scratch and presented this to different teams within the business as well as the director of product which really pushed me out of my comfort zone but made me so much more confident. At TUI there's also countless workshops that go on throughout the year which I always make sure I attend as they often teach me a lot - I wanted to learn more about business cases and went a long to a development course and it's really helped me understand the business case process. I have also attended a Learning Week workshop whih focuses on understanding the way you work and how to shape your objectives. Additional to the workshops mentioned there is also a TUI Think Digital week where people from companies such a VICE, Twitter, The Guardian etc will be coming in to talk about the impact of technology.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I love being on the scheme and it's honestly the best decision i've ever made! I was worried being young and going into a 9-5 job it might get a bit stale and boring at times but everday is so different, full of challenges and there's always a really exciting outcome at the end of your work. The product planning team are some of the most intelligent and driven people that i've ever met and it really motivates me to do better and as well as that they've been extremely supportive throughout the whole scheme from answering every little question i have to sitting for hours explaining complicated processes to me. The scheme has definitely exceeded my expectations and i've got to be involved in some really exciting pieces of work and also had the chance to visit Cyprus, Ibiza and Turkey as part of work to go and see some of our amazing hotels in resort.

  • I feel really valued by TUI UK, and have definitely received recognition for my work. I have won product superstar of the month 3 times, and it's voted by the rest of the team usually if they feel someone has contributed in a positive way to the rest of team, the winner is then rewarded with a voucher a shop of their choice. I have also recieved a lot of feedback from my managers and other people on my work which is great!

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • My programme has been very well organised, and i've never had to worry about where i'm going next. The very unique thing about working for TUI is that you won't just be placed somewhere just because there happens to be a space going - your managers will tailor your role to your needs and the way you work best as well as managing to tie your objectives in as well.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are lots of opportunites outside of work that you are offered when working with TUI UK. I had the chance to do some volunteer work at the local community park which was a really great to give back. We also tend to have a team day twice a year where we'll go to Oxford/London (e.g.) be split up into teams and then given challenges to do. There's also a gym right next to the offices which is where most of the people who work at TUI go - in product we tend to get a group of us together and go to a gym class so we can give each other some moral support! :)

  • 9. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • TUI is a fantastic company that i've become so passionate about and they're a company that make you proud to work for them. There's countless opportunities for your development within your role but on the contrary to that they are also very open to people moving around the business to broaden their skill set or share their knowledge from previous roles into their new roles. There's really something for everyone!

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • . Put as much detail as possible on your application a one line explanation won't sell yourself! Remember if you get stuck on some of the questions remember that it doesn't always have to relate back to a working situation . In the interviews just be yourself and listen carefully to what you've asked . Don't let your nerves get to you! Remember they're not here to catch you out they just want to get to know you and work out if you'd be right for the job . Make sure you've done your research on the company especially about the different products that we offer such as Sensatori, Family Life etc - coming into a commercial role you'll be expected to know this - On assessment days make sure you volunteer and ask as many questions as possible it shows that you have interest in the business (What would you like to have been told) As i travel on the train everyday to and from work i wasn't aware that when working for TUI you can get 50% off your railfare which I wish i had known at the beggining!
