  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Trading School leaver - working with my manager to effectively yield resort areas to meet overall objectives within the team. We have many interactions with other commercial teams to provide feedback for future holidays yet to be set up as well as adapting to external events that impact the business now.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Currently there are no formal qualifications on the scheme but I have developed a multitude of skills from setting up complex plans in excel using formulas I had never seen before to presenting in front of 30 people of which include senior managers. There are development courses open to everyone some of which School leavers have a priority to get on giving us better opportunities than some others. Secondments are part of the scheme and this gives a greater understanding of commercial and how it all connects. You not only learning so much about how other departments work but also building up strong relationships and building a wide contact network really helps development after the scheme and for day to day working.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I Enjoyed the Scheme a lot, from the start there is a huge support network for you which really helps when you are daunted by the huge change from school to work. The culture at TUI is great and from day 1 you are considered a member of the team.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by TUI UK & Ireland?
  • There is a very steep learning curve and once you start to get to grips with your role and the business your responsibilities grow. From quite early on you are doing work that has an impact on the business and your teams results so you really feel like you are doing something which is of value. Recognition is important particularly in my team there is a weekly award for best trader and nominations are from your peers, if you win you feel really appreciated by your team. Managers are very supportive and often praise for good work which they are happy to shout about and let other know what you have done.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The scheme is quite well structured and those that have completed the scheme are now supporting it to improve on all the areas they felt could have been better. Once you finish the scheme you are asked to become a "buddy" for the new intake so you can pass down your experiences and help they with the questions they have to help settle them into working life. Mentors are set up so each School leaver has one and can start from early on about planning and developing their Career at TUI.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • There is a huge amount of support from your whole team, usually an experienced peer is there to help you with any day to day issues you have and your manager is there to help support you development and training. regular catch-ups with your manager are set up to make sure any problems you have are sorted quickly and you can raise anything you would like.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Most of the suport coems from your team, your peers and manager. You will have a buddy who has been throguh exactly what you are going through now so they can help you with getting to know the business. You also get a mentor to help start developing a career or help you discover the direction you wish to move.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary is good and it does increase after the first year based on performance.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Leisure and team activities are constant so you will always be doing something to help bond as a team outside of work. The scheme does include either a conference or a resort trip within the two years so you will get to experience the holidays we sell and what makes our differentiated product as such. We have something called a discovery day in which we can use one working day a year to raise money for charity or to hel pthe local community, past events have included helping to refurbish rooms at schools or local buildings and clearing/re-planting at local parks.

  • 9. Would you recommend TUI UK & Ireland to a friend?
  • Yes


  • 9b. Why?
  • The atmosphere is great, lots of people have come back to TUI stating the reason it is a great place to work and I agree. Compared to my friends that work I have the most sociable work collegues in and out of work. Numerous team nights out and events held after work such as quizes and charity events means there is something going on. and during work hours we have an very friendly and welcoming group which make it a very comfortable place to work.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to TUI UK & Ireland?
  • Try to find out as much as you can about the company, you should know what we do and if you know about us it will show you are interested and passionate about the industry. Relax try not to be too nervous (easier said than done) but if you get too nervous you wont be able to sell yourself and thats what you want to do, show why you are good for the job.
