My role as a first line desk agent involves providing first lie maintenance to Morrisons employees with a range of issues including tills, computers, printers, and hand held terminals. As the first point of contact for Morrisons staff I am also responsible for progressing certain incidents to the relevant support teams or third party companies outside of Fujitsu.
I have learnt how to use the LanDesk application as well as first time fixes for software applications such as Storeline and hardware including Lexmark printers and Intermec hand held terminals.
I enjoy the experience of troubleshooting issues and working out potential solutions to problems based on information and training provided by Fujitsu and from experience gained on the job.
I feel as though Fujitsu values my health and safety as well as the value my role brings to the company and that any concerns I raise with my manager will be taken seriously.
Induction and training involved a mix of work shadowing, presentations, and hands on experience with some of the devices supported. Weekly "Comm cell" meetings allow groups of service desk agents to meet and be informed on recent issues regarding the service desk.
At least one supervisor with a more extensive knowledge and experience will be available to ask for advice on issues that may be new to service desk agents or difficult to resolve.
I can fill out an annual DSE form if there are health and safety issues with my workspace such as chairs that cannot be adjusted or entitlement to a free eye test.
My apprenticeship wage covers all of my costs associated with work such as travel and food and the company premises are easy to travel to by car or train.
There are opportunities to attend apprenticeship events in which apprentices from multiple UK Fujitsu sites have the opportunity to meet and discuss their experiences with each other.
Yes
It is a role which initially pushed me to perform outside of my conform zone and interact with a varied range of people, all while receiving an education and being paid a reasonable apprenticeship wage.
I would advice people to do voluntary work experience in a support role in order to gain an understanding of what is required to work in an environment that can potentially be high pressure and requires restraint when dealing with difficult customers.
