  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • My current role at Vauxhall is based at the Toddington Road Warehouse. With me being at the Warehouse I am part of the planning team which gives me my Job Title of - "Inventory Control and Projects Team". My job role involves daily, weekly and monthly tasks. My daily tasks consist of using different programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel in order to input data which I receive from using a programme at the Warehouse called 'Silo'. Furthermore, I also have other daily tasks which need to be completed purely in Silo, such as 'Checking for Sub Containers', 'Running Daily Replenishments', 'Closing Query Receipts', creating 'Cycle Counts' and sometimes making 'Stock Adjustments'. Another daily task which I undertake is using Microsoft Access to help the WSS Team with their checks. On a daily basis I have many interactions with people internally as my job consists of both desk work and also physical work on the shop floor, meaning that if I have any queries I need to raise, I will speak to the person most relevant to that job.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • My job role involves me using programs such as Excel, Access and Word. Although I have used these programmes before, I now feel that I have better knowledge of how to use them as that I can now input formulas, format word documents and create brand new databases. Furthermore, I have learnt how to use new software (Silo) as that I use it every day in my job role and without it, I would not be able to complete my daily, weekly and monthly tasks. Since starting here, we have also had presentation training as that we have the opportunity to present to people externally about the apprenticeship and also internally as we have to complete 'Who Am I' presentations to the management in Vauxhall.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • So far I have really enjoyed the apprenticeship programme. This is because, I find the work which I take on very interesting and the team which I have around me, have helped my settle in very quickly which has made it more enjoyable for me. Before I started the apprenticeship, I had very high expectations of the quality of the programme and since starting here, it has not disappointed. This is because the training I have received so far has been very good and the team I have got around me have helped me no bounds. This is why it makes it enjoyable because I am at a company who value apprentices very highly which make you feel very welcome at the company.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Stellantis?
  • I feel very valued by Vauxhall which I could tell from the first week of starting the apprenticeship as that we had talks with every director in Vauxhall. Furthermore, in some of the talks, some of the directors said they value apprentices which made me feel very valued by the company. Another reason why I feel valued by Vauxhall is because the role I have taken on, if I was here, someone else would be doing it. Meaning that, Vauxhall give you proper work and a proper job role, which makes you feel very valued as that you know you are contributing to the business. From this everyone here is appreciative of the work I do!

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme which I have taken on is very structured as we know what we are aiming for at the end of each year whether that be in work (CAP Targets) or personal Qualifications (NVQ Level 3, HNC, HND). The programme is also very organised as that we know what days we have to attend college and also when we need to attend certain events and when deadlines need to be met. Also since starting the programme, Vauxhall have let us know that support (if you need it) is always on hand which they make clear from setting up the mentor programme and HR always telling us that they are always there.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • In terms of receiving support from the training provider, it normally depends how much support you personally need from them. For example if I have a problem with the work set from the college, I always know I can email or phone my assessor who can give me support and guidance to complete the work.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • Since starting here at Vauxhall I have received a lot of support from them whether it be a manager of some department or a member of the HR Team. Furthermore, here at Vauxhall, there is also a Mentor System which has been set up and every employee at Vauxhall has a mentor. This is another great way of getting support as the mentor allows you to express any issues which you may have or allows you to raise any questions which you may have. Overall though the support is very good due to if you have any problems or issues HR or managers make it clear that if you need support they are always a email or phone call away.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The Salary here at Vauxhall is very good. As an apprentice, most companies would only pay you the minimum apprentice wage however here at Vauxhall they pay a lot more as they feel you are a valued member of the company. The Salary which I have been given allows me to do all the things I want to such as, socialise with friends, travel to and from work and college and also purchase new items of clothing.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • They are many opportunities outside of the workplace. For example Vauxhall don't just have the head office and warehouse, they also have the Luton Plant of which they make the new Vivaro. Carrying on from this, one company event which happened recently was the Luton Plant open day which allowed families to come round and look at the plant. We got involved by touring people round the plant and also helping the day run smoothly. Also at Vauxhall as an apprentice there are many things you can get involved with such as Brathry Challenge. This challenge involves teams of apprentices from around the country to see who the best apprentice teams is by doing all different sorts of challenges such as fun raising, charity events and volunteer work.

  • 9. Would you recommend Stellantis to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend a friend to Vauxhall because since starting here I have enjoyed every minute of it. This is mainly due to the way we are treated here (like a proper employee) and the way how Vauxhall feel about apprentices. Also, Vauxhall apprentices are not just given jobs which are made up, we have taken on proper roles and if we wasn't doing them someone else would be. Furthermore the benefits of working for Vauxhall are very good.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Stellantis?
  • The main advice I would give to anyone applying to the Vauxhall Apprenticeship is for the application stage (English and Maths Assessment) make sure you have a look at some Maths questions so when going to the assessment you will have it fresh in your mind when answering the questions. Also I would say when at the Assessment and Interview day at Vauxhall Head Office (Griffin House) make sure you act professional throughout the whole day even at lunch time because people are always watching you and Vauxhall will not want to employee someone who is seen as rude and unprofessional.
