SmartFutures Student Review

The first two weeks of the work experience was mainly icebreakers, basic essential skills training, and networking / bonding sessions. Every day offered something of new value. In the third week especially, a lot of responsibility was given to me; with being given deadlines and expected to carry out external research. Nevertheless it was an amazing, challenging and fun experience.

Teaming, networking, communication, public speaking, problem solving, leadership and confidence are all amongst skills developed on the work experience.

I really liked the people that I worked with. In essence, they are the ones that made the experience unforgettable for me. I had heard a lot about the programme before and it definitely met and surpassed my expectations. The company's image and reputation definitely are to be taken as real, the environment of the building and the nature of the people matched up perfectly. I loved every moment!

I was always given attention, and treated exceptionally well by the members of staff; even being served a three course meal on the 9th floor! I couldn't have dreamed of a better treatment.

There was a set structure and theme for each of the three weeks, and these were stuck to. I found that the company was able to become flexible whenever necessary.

There were multiple people available to offer help, but each student had two main points of contact; their buddy and their mentor. Both always made time to see you, and still remain in contact today!

My manager was very helpful in guiding me through tasks on the third week, and helping me learn on-the-job. My mentor is wonderful, we have monthly meetings now and she helped me form the basis of a CV, and has told me about her past experiences in the working world.

Considering I did not have to pay for travel (being a student), I effectively had no expenses.

It was only a three week placement, but there are still many alumni events to attend throughout the years to come.
