  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • As part of my Building Surveying Apprenticeship I shadow colleagues both on site and in the office as well as completing tasks I have been set by my manager and others in my team. Typical tasks in the day include writing up schedules using Excel, meeting with external companies to discuss future works and using key computer programmes to carry out tasks. I am responsible for managing my own schedule so it is important I keep my diary up to date. More recently I undertake work more independently which is more challenging as I have learnt the required skills to carry out the work.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • Yes, I feel I have learnt many new skills, from computer skills (like using Excel's formulas) to communication skills (when interacting with clients). In addition to this, I have learnt many important skills specific to my role which has allowed me to progress and tackle a much wider variety of challenges than when I first started my Apprenticeship.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my Apprenticeship very much, I enjoy learning at a fast rate and learning about a career that very much interests me. Everyone in the company is great to work with and everyone offers more than enough help and support. The office itself is a fantastic place to work as it provides excellent facilities.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by JLL?
  • I definitely feel valued at JLL. I receive feedback regularly from my manager, colleagues and HR, and I feel it is important that we get recognised when we achieve something good, and we are. When I am asked to take on jobs by others it helps me feel of value in the team and we always get praised after doing a good job and also given advice how to further improve.

  • Our programme is very well organised, especially on JLL's part, however although the college we attend is well run, clearer information regarding the course could be provided.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The City of London provide a lot of support. They made it clear we can always ask for advice or support if we need it. Although we don't have much contact with them we are still able to receive help from them.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive more than enough support from my employer. Support is always offered to us and we have a number of people we can speak to if a problem arises. Clubs and events are run in the office to provide support through learning (eg. Microsoft Office courses) and physical wellbeing support (eg. mental wellbeing classes). Everyone in the office is more than happy to give give their time to give any type of support needed.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The salary I earn definitely meets my costs. It is great to be working in a company like JLL at the same time as learning the relevant skills, so a salary to accompany that is a real bonus. In addition, the fact we are given a travel allowance that covers the cost of our travel is a great asset the company provides for the Apprentices.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Yes. There is a huge variety of opportunities outside of work. JLL runs many sports teams which are a great way to meet new people in the company and get settled in, especially as a new joiner. As well as sports teams there is a wide range of events and networks that present endless opportunities outside of work.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLL?
