  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • I am a Marketing Communications Administrator and no one day is the same as another. I am responsible for the completion of various different tasks from Search Engine Optimisation, Competitor Analysis, maintenance of Customer Innovation Centre monitors within the office and much more. I work closely with my line manager and often branch out to work with several different groups within business services. I am not often required to contact people outside of the office but my new responsibility as manager of exhibition kit will make it necessary for me to do so in the future. I am responsible for the checking in and out of exhibition stands and kit as well as regularly reporting on the Social Sales Index scores throughout the UK via LinkedIn Sales Navigator. At the moment I am heavily involved in an Amazon based project whereby I am optimising the content we already have on Amazon and uploading new items for sale.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I am constantly developing my knowledge of spreadsheet software since I spend a lot of my time using Microsoft Excel. I am also learning a lot about how to communicate in a business environment just from day to day experience. I attend training courses outside of work in order to complete my apprenticeship, centering around Business Administration.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I very much enjoy the environment I work in as it is very conducive for manageable progressive learning and task-completion. I enjoy the company of the people I work with and the subject matter I encounter working within the company's HQ. It is exceeding my expectations and I have a lot more responsibility than I thought I would have, which is a good thing of course but sometimes proves a little challenging - again in a good way.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by 3M UK?
  • 3M have given me more responsibility than I ever thought I would have and I feel respected and valued within Business Services. My managers are very constructive and friendly towards me and I really do appreciate the levels of feedback and advice they give me. I have already been praised for my work within Business Services despite only being here 2 months, since I am heavily involved with a plethora of tasks across the organisation.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have been adequately trained and supported within my apprenticeship and my intermittent spells at college prove useful and constructive. I am well supported at all times and I feel comfortable and clear on my tasks and objectives.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive adequate but not exceptional levels of support, they are there if I need them, but not always immediately. Equally I wouldn't want too much support in order to optimise my individual performance and confidence on my own rather than relying on constant support and guidance.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • My manager is incredibly supportive and will always be able to find time to help me out even with the smallest things. I am aware of my HR team, although I have not had cause to contact them yet, and everyone within the company is very friendly as a whole - making it a nice environment to work in, since I know support is always there if I need it, in many different forms.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary adequately covers my cost of living, travel and general expenditure. Any time that I do find myself low on cash is usually through my own reckless personal spending rather than not being paid enough.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I have already been on a Business Services conference, I am running a half marathon with colleagues from 3M and am acquainted with the company football team.

    8/10

  • 9. Would you recommend 3M UK to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • It is a nice environment to work in, with plenty of opportunity within the company itself to follow a variety of career-paths and meet so many new people.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to 3M UK?
  • Be prepared to work hard and experience a load of different areas of work you might not be familiar/comfortable with, but know that with the mindset it's all very achievable. Enjoy your work, don't just do it.
