Draughtsman Review

I am an apprentice Draughtsman which involves producing engineering drawings and 3D models on a daily basis. This role allows me to interact with lots of different departments such as the machine shops who manufacture the components that I draw and the sales department who order the parts based upon my specifications. My responsibilities include producing drawings to the required standard and specifications, checking my own work before submitting it, and making sure that I ask if I have any doubts/concerns about anything I am doing.

I have been introduced to various different drawing packages such as AutoCAD, RasterCAD, Medusa and ProEngineer. I am to complete a 3D solid modeling training course (which is a week long course) and I have already spent time using machinery in the first year of my apprenticeship i.e. manual lathes and milling machines, and earned my NVQ level 2 doing so.

I thoroughly enjoy my programme and get on well with everyone who I work with, The company is a great company to work for and the general culture is that of a friendly atmosphere where everyone is happy to help. The course has exceeded my expectations and I would recommend it to anyone.

Very valued, I feel like I am part of the team and not just someone there to learn new skills temporarily. The company has a scheme called the "Champions" scheme where employees can be rewarded for doing more than their daily requirements ask. I have been involved with several in-depth projects where I have been rewarded for my efforts through this Champions scheme which made me feel like a valued member of the team.

Starting off with a general induction and safety briefing at the company it was clear to see the programme was very well structured. We have had support from all of the staff throughout and the relevant training has always been made available. We have dedicated NVQ assessors who are keen to assist whenever necessary. The organization has been very well handled as I have always known what is happening at every stage of the course, being well informed and kept-in-the-loop throughout.

Lots of support, whenever any issues arise they are there to help. They are based on site where I work so it is very easy to go and ask for help if required. They have a positive attitude towards helping me and are keen to offer guidance where necessary. I have thoroughly enjoyed it.

Lots of support through the use of emails and also regular meetings and briefings with the rest of the employees at the company. We are encouraged to seek help/guidance whenever necessary and the general atmosphere is friendly and helpful.

I can comfortably afford my travel, living and daily costs with my current salary, as well as enjoying a goof social life at the same time. The location of my employment is only a short drive from where I live which is a benefit.
