1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:

I am an Apprentice Test Technician for Mercedes AMG HPP which involves testing and analysing data for various components for Formula 1 engines

2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?

I have participated in college once a week to add to my existing qualifications and obtain PEO's which consist of units such as CAD and electronics to aid my performance at work by learning new and relevant information which can also be used at work. I am also developing on solving problems quickly and effectively due to the nature of the job and this is helping me understand how the testing rigs work and also how to maintain them when I come to run these on my own.

3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?

I like the challenges that my role provides and I also enjoy learning about the new technologies that we are currently experiencing in modern F1. I also appreciate being trusted to operate testing rigs alone by having the confidence to know and understand what to do with the components being tested.

4. How valued do you feel by Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains?

I feel that I am very useful at Mercedes because I am now being trusted to run various different testing rigs and provide feedback to my colleagues during testing.

5. How well organised/structured is your programme?

My programme has very clear objectives and structured coursework paths to enable me to understand easily what I need to do to complete my apprenticeship.

6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?

I receive a fair amount of support from SEMTA and they are very good at setting targets and goals in my reviews and also understand how busy this kind of working environment can be and so do not push me to breaking point!

6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?

I receive a lot of support from my employer as they want to make sure that I am happy and confident at work so that I can always perform at my best.

7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?

My salary is more than reasonable considering my position and my outgoings each month and am therefore happy with my salary.

8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?

The company advertise the apprenticeship scheme at various colleges around the area and offer work experience for students who have performed well at college.

9. Would you recommend Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains to a friend?

Yes

AMG is a very good company to work for as they look after you and value you at work which allows you to perform at your best and they also provide a 10% non contributory pension scheme.

10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Mercedes AMG High Performance Powertrains?

Apply as soon as the vacancy opens (September time) and make sure that you are studying the relevant college courses to enable you to qualify for the role.
