I am in University on a Monday (Winchester) and the rest of the week i work on Client side in London. My role is a technical role (Junior Technical Architect) in which the client is moving from win XP to Win 8.1 which requires a lot of remediation. I work with the clients/users daily and also work with a close team made up of CGI members. I am also apart of a CTO team which is made up of people from the bigger project which allows me to see what other people are doing and other roles i can consider for the future.
I have taken a few day training courses which consist of building relationships with the clients, confidence building and learning my personal skills. I am always learning new technical skills in my role daily.
Since being on this programme i have worked in the same team. The team have changed since starting however having a consist amount of people in at the same time and working closely with them everyday has allowed me to really fit into the company and fell apart of something.
In my team i feel valued as there are only about 7 of us here right now and this means we all have to take up different tasks and roles daily, working with the team and learning new things makes me feel like i am constantly learning.
this is a great program however the structure of the uni side and work can be hard to handle at times. The uni work builds up to the end of the semester and this then clashes with day to day work. This then means that all this uni work has to be done after work and on the weekends not leaving any time for an end to work
i have many managers and mentors who check up on my work life and uni life who i feel privileged to have as they are always there to help if i am sinking under all the work
My manager is very understanding and as there are a few people on my team who are on the same course so my manager is more lenient
The salary goes up every year on the course depending on your work review. i find this harsh as we have a lot to deal with and it is only based on work so it is important to keep up work life as well as uni as after this course your work reviews still have to be high
there is the normal annual tour, and you can sign up to the sports club which includes activites and discounts for other things. i have signed up for the tough mudder 2016 CGI team which i am looking forward to as it is also team building
Yes
It is a great opportunity to build confidence and work experience as well as getting your degree with no debt at the end. If anyone wants to travel or go into an industry that includes IT which is most then CGI can offer a lot. Working in different countries and earning a good wage is worth the hard work. Feeling apart of a community.
Expect to have a lot of work on your hands and be able to time manage, you will learn how to do it however you have to be able to withstand pressure in the first year as this is when your most likely going to be doing presentations. The assessment days i would say just be yourself. I was very nervous as this was the first thing i had done since college and i believe they liked me being genuine and honest about how i was feeling but having the passion and excitement for this offer was what they liked.
