  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have massively improved on my soft skills as there is a development scheme at Siemens in Congleton where apprentices and graduates are responsible for running a factory within a factory. • I feel very valued. Especially being part of the Junior Factory where we are responsible for sourcing, manufacturing and delivering products to the main factory. • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I was one of the first apprentices to go through the new defined programme. This didn't always work but with a lot of communication and team work between the apprentices, managers and steering team we have been able to develop a programme that is well organised and structured. Constant feedback is gathered to make sure the programme is up to date and organised/structured correctly.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • college have been extremely helpful throughout my apprenticeship. Whenever I am stuck on a topic, I am happy to send a quick email to the lecturer and ask for extra guidance/ help and they are always happy to do so. I find it really helpful that I can send an assignment in before hand-in date and I am able to receive formative feedback on areas that need more expansion.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • The extras you get through being a Siemens employees are extremely good!! However, I would appreciate more of a salary, especially when there is a difference between the ability of apprentices i.e. when one apprentice is achieving distinctions and another one is only achieving passes. The pay should reflect the qualifications that are achieved and be common throughout all apprenticeships with similar companies.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • I am heavily involved in volunteering to encourage and inspire the next generations about engineering, and the opportunities and careers that come from STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths). I've also had the opportunity to apply and take part in awards such as the IET Young Women Engineer awards and EEF First Year Apprentice of the Year. This is a great chance to meet new people, network and show everyone what you have been doing during your apprenticeship.
