quantity surveyor Review

On my current project, I'm working within a team of 4 Commercial Staff, I mainly look after Labour, Plant & materials on the project. whilst also looking after a number of subcontractor packages.

since starting I've been on a number of development courses, not only for business but the first few are about yourself as a person. this has helped massively within construction. I've also been on a number of courses relating to BIM, which I never thought I'd be able to get on.

Because I'm site based, the team I work with make working enjoyable. the courses we go on for the programme are great too, they let you to relax a little whilst working & plus it provides an opportunity to have a catch up and see everyone else's progression.

I see myself as a key member within the site team now, even when I first started i was given tasks that i thought to be out of my depth but having the availability to talk to different people within Laing O'Rourke of all levels has heped

The structure of the programme is excellent, they provide help around exam & deadlines and are very understanding if i need an afternoon off the day before an exam to prepare that little bit more.

i have the ability to enrol myself on to a number of optional courses if i want to. all i need to do if gain approval from my manager then the opportunities are endless. as for support around university, then i have a full range of people who are willing to help me, not only on site but if i need to i can email anyone within Laing O'Rourke

at first its challenging in order to balance the cost of living to the salary, once you get the hang of it though its easy.

if you want to volunteer for anything all you need to do is ask, site teams get involved in local voluntary days with schools and community. if you have a idea about something, you can put it forward and its normally acted upon.

i believe it to be one of the best companies to work for. with all the potential work coming up the industry as a whole will only get better.

just be yourself, be open and honest. At the end of the day when you're at the assessment centres with the other applicants, they're in the same boat as you.
