  • I am a Technician Engineer and during my apprenticeship I will hold a variety of roles within the company, with the aim of getting a broad experience of the business.

  • I have gained many new skills that have been supported by the company on various training courses and mentoring whilst at work. I have been actively involved and encouraged to make a commitment to my own professional and personal development, with a specific aim of achieve Chartered status with a relevant professional institution.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my programme as it offers good opportunities for development. The culture within the company is such that you can push your own development through attending a variety of courses on offer.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Laing O'Rourke?
  • I feel valued by Laing O'Rourke to some degree as I have taken part in projects where I have held a larger role and have been trusted to attend meetings in place of my manager on occasion.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The programme is well structured and well run. We receive support from the programme teams and should be need it have support with studying in the form of a study day allowance.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • The university I attend is very good and I am enjoying studying there. The course is challenging but people are happy to help at work, if they can.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I have enough support from my employer with allowances made for study days and come exam time understanding on the need to revise out of hours.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I find the salary/package competitive when compared to other companies and alongside not having and university debt, this is a very appealing option.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • The company events have been good with sporting events such as football and bowling being arranged internally and promoting by management. At Christmas there are a variety of events and each year proceeds are donated to charity.

  • Yes

  • I think the development and training opportunities on offer alongside the competitive salary and benefits make this a very appealing option, with no fees to pay for university and vital work experience.


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Laing O'Rourke?
  • I think ensuring you have been on the company website and done plenty of research on the Laing O'Rourke philosophy and projects, would be extremely helpful in the assessment days and interviews.
