  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • Business Admin and Tele Sales Answering and making calls to customers. Organizing daily paper work for filing. My daily internal interaction on a daily basis would be with other depots or credit control, training... My external interaction would be with customers (regular customers or call in for survey customer), suppliers (coffee, stationary, leaflets...). My responsibilities are to make sure that I am polite and respectful of customer in store and over the phone.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have being able to learn about the joinery trade, which has increased my knowledge of products. my confidence has also increase during my time here because of getting to know people and not being frightened to make calls or serve at the counter. I have learned there is a lot to joinery then thought, my product knowledge is increasing everyday.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I enjoy my work as I have a structured morning with sorting the paper work, and then afterwards you find everyday is not the same. with dealing trade customer coming in and buying stuff, to showing non trade customer kitchen ranges. I also find work enjoyable because of the environment and atmosphere in the depot.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by Howdens?
  • I get the recognition from staff members when you sell something everyone says well done to each other as a way encouraging you and building confidence. with all tasks I was able to join in and help even if it was very little.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • Very thing was organized from day one, everyone was very helpful teaching me how to work with the system and serving customer. Everyday I as giving tasks to help me get used to the job eventually resulting in me being able to do it all at once.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I got a lot of support from everyone in the depot including the customers, people acknowledged that I was learning and were patient and helpful.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • If I needed help I would be comfortable enough to ask for help, which was given. If I didn't know something I felt that I was being helped more then being judged for not knowing.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • With the money I was able to live it as I didn't have much living costs to pay, however when it came to social costs is was a bit tight but manageable.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • Outside of work we have company events such as go karting which was all expenses paid for, they also sport day out for rounder's, where regional area play against each to make up a non beatable team.

  • Yes

  • Howdens is a good place to work, people are inviting nice and friendly which makes a nice, relaxed calm environment


  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to Howdens?
  • Just to come with the open mind and be willing to learn new things even if it seem like too much at the start.
