Finance Apprentice Review

As a Finance Apprentice I am shadowing several members of my team each day, learning what they do and what impacts it has on the business. I also assist in the month-end reporting which involves creating a report assessing actual figures against forecasts.

I have greatly improved my Excel skills from my Apprenticeship, since it is a fundamental program in my role and in Finance as a whole. As part of my Apprenticeship I will study for a CIMA qualification and develop my competency skills, so for example: understanding the importance of teamwork and building relationships.

I love my job and the Programme is a fantastic alternative to the traditional university route. There's always something new to learn and no one day is the same!

Very valued - Sky is very big on empowerment and values every employee, there is so much support provided by colleagues, Managers and you are made to feel a part of the team from Day One. I am often asked if I want to participate in projects/Apprenticeship workshops so know my development is important to Sky.

I have regular support sessions both from my Manager and Training Provider where I can ask questions, get support and simply catch up. I have a Development Plan in place for both which indicates my goals and also my study dates for my Qualification, which helps me keep organised and on track.

I have an Assessor assigned to me, who is my main point of contact throughout my Apprenticeship. They are full of information and quick to respond to my queries I may have, which is great. They are extremely supportive and are there to help.

I have dedicated study time during the week, which enables me to stay on track with my studies. I am released from work on days where I am classroom-learning, and there is a team dedicated to ensuring you are happy in your role.

Since I live further away from the campus in West London, my travel costs are higher than the typical level, however this is not a problem. As you are an Apprentice the wage is not very high, but is definitely in line with the national average (Don't worry; you're not on a zero hour contract or paid by the hour!)

My team organise regular evening socials both on and off campus, and we have a monthly meeting which is often an offsite venture. You are given a yearly allowance of volunteering days, which you can use to volunteer at several of the stations on campus.

It's a great place to work - great atmosphere, everyone is so friendly and welcoming, you're given the opportunity to really get involved. The campus is fantastic and the Apprenticeships on offer are very varied so there's something for everyone!

Don't be afraid to show your enthusiasm and passion! When applying make sure you list all your experience and link back to it during your interviews. Try to have fun during the process - this may sound strange but it's a great way of showing that you'd be a great addition to the team!
