I have been a summer school intern based on the audit floor. This means I have worked as part of the audit team on a number of different client's accounts. I have been able to go offsite and visit two clients for a total of 3 days (out of the 9 days in the Leicester office). As well as working in audit I have also had the opportunity to go to different departments and experience different job roles. These departments include accounting and business advisory, business restructure and personal and corporate tax. Externally I have been talking to clients and interacting with them to obtain the information needed for audit tests.
I feel like I have experienced a very professional working environment which can enabled me to improve my professional skills. I have also felt like my confidence has grown as I have been able to work, interact and ask questions to new working clients and colleagues.
It has been very enjoyable, feeling part of an established team. I have learned new skills and about new sectors within accounting, and it has given me and insight into the accounting working world.
I feel very valued as my counselling manager has been in contact with me everyday so far and the office is a very pleasant working environment to be in. I have met many new people in this 2 week experience and each person as been as welcoming as the next.
It is well organised as I have mostly known what I am doing a day in advance. If I haven't known what I had planned going into the office I have been informed of planes by my counselling manager after I have been in the office around 5 minutes.
I've received support from my counselling manager everyday so far. I have also felt supported by the people I work with, and people who have taught me on certain days.
I have had a partner interview which has enabled me to talk with a main person at BDO; they were very supportive and the interview was very useful.
The salary I have been paid for the two weeks was a extra that I didn't expect, but I have warmly accepted. I have also had the opportunity to reimburse my travel expenses, so I have sent an email regarding this.
As I have been at the BDO Leicester office for just under 2 weeks there has been little company events or activities I have been envolved, but there are regular office email regarding charity work, events and fantasy football.
Yes
It has been a good experience of the corporate accounting world, and has opened my eyes to new sectors I didn't think would interest me as much as others. Its been a fantastic leaning experience, in an environment which I felt comfortable.
Take as many opportunities you can that come your way, and don't be afraid to ask questions.
