  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • In the office I would help out with calling and casting, so checking accounts. I also did some sampling using an excel document, as well as doing some business and development work. When out with a client I would do on site testing, so using their database to check accounts.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have gained confidence in myself, as well as improving with time management as there are deadlines for the accounts, and it is important to get them completed in time. I have also made social contacts, and learnt more about the accountancy industry.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by BDO?
  • I feel very valued, as I am constantly given tasks even Graduates would do, considering I do not have as many skills as them. When I completed a task quickly to meet the deadline, but still achieving a high level of quality, I was thanked in person and in front of my peers. I had a great sense of achievement.

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • The first two days were incredibly well organised, however the rest of the week was not as structured. I was not booked to a client on Friday, but around half an hour before I was supposed to leave on Thursday I was notified I would be out with a client on Friday which made it difficult to arrange transport there and back at such late notice. I have even been booked to clients and then there is no work to do, or the majority of the time I have to ask for work to do. I do enjoy the work I have done, and the experience from the client visits are invaluable. However, I did expect the programme to be a bit more organised.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I was immediately appointed a counselling manager, who has help me set up conference calls and been happy to answer all of my questions. I have a meeting with him at the end of the programme in order to evaluate how I thought it was. [This section of the comment has been removed by a member of the RateMyApprenticeship Team because it did not meet our site terms and conditions] was a friendly and supportive counselling manager.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • I receive a one off payment of £200, which was more than I expected as I did not realise I was paid. I work 36.25 hours a week, and any expenses are paid back to you as long as you keep the receipts! You are also taken out for lunch and everyone was so nice.

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • During my time here, I have gone to the Summer Garden Party and received emails from individual's inviting me to join their theatre enthusiast group where you get discounts for theatre tickets due to group prices. Also, many charity opportunities, and I was even here for the bake sale which is annual, raising money for a past employee who unfortunately died and put the money towards a charity of his families choice.
