Since I am in my first year, my day to day role, is attending college with other apprentices and completing tasks and assignments set by lecturers and tutors. This includes practical work and theory.
Yes I have learnt many new skills - metal work, milling, turning and welding are a few. I have also developed team working skills, time management and organisation.
I had thoroughly enjoyed this first year - prior to this, I was was working full time so it was nice to return to the college environment. Although we are expected to work hard, the environment is still enjoyable.
We feel very valued - the company regularly reminds us how important we are to the business. However, due to being at college we often feel forgotten about at times.
The programme is very well organised, but communication between the college and the company sometimes fails. This can result is poor organisation. On the whole, everything usually falls into place.
Great support from the training provider - with onsite support and many processes in place for when an individual needs help and support. The proceedures are also effective.
Minimal support from employer currently due to being at college, although JLR representatives are typically on site most weeks. JLR HR are also onsite for HR issues - they bridge the communication gap.
Personally, I feel that an increased salary would benefit my lifestyle, however I know that the package is very good especially considering the pension and long term benefits.
There are many opportunities outside of work - the college offer extra curriculum activities and there is a great social scene between apprentices.
Yes
The package is fantastic, there are many opportunities and the company seems genuine and wants you to stay and work for them. They have your best interests are heart.
The company want individuals with the right behaviors and a passion for engineering; if you've got both of these then your half way there. The selection process is vigorous and long, but if you're chosen, it is definitely worth it.
