  • 1. Please give an overview of your role and what this involves on a day-to-day basis:
  • On a day to day basis I attend Warwickshire College in Leamington Spa. I am studying an Engineering BTEC level 3 diploma, and and also completing a trailblazer performing engineering operations qualification. When the college is closed, I am at Whitley Plant, learning about my future job roles.

  • 2. Have you learnt any new skills or developed existing skills?
  • I have learned a variety of skills and also developed many existing skills. For example, I have been trained on milling machines, lathes, drills and many other machines. I can now weld, and perform many other engineering operations that I previously couldn't. I believe that I have developed my timekeeping and professionalism during the apprenticeship so far, and have matured significantly.

  • 3. To what extent do you enjoy your programme?
  • I thoroughly enjoy this apprenticeship programme. I work among a great team, and the training team in plant is fantastic and really make me feel valued as an employee. Learning new skills is very interesting and exciting, as I can see how it benefits me both inside and outside of work.

  • 4. How valued do you feel by JLR?
  • I feel incredibly valued by Jaguar Land rover. In plant, I have a designated training team who really care about my welfare and experiences, and always want to know exactly what is going on when we are not with them in plant. They even took us out for a catch up meal after work one Friday!

  • 5. How well organised/structured is your programme?
  • I have had a varied experience of the programme. As I am part of the first year completing the Trailblazer programme, there have been many teething problems such as delayed assessments, which have meant that they have had to be rushed to an extent. However, in plant the organisation is fantastic, with my next 3 years already planned out.

  • 6a. How much support do you receive from your training provider?
  • I receive a large amount of support from my training provider. They want to see me succeed, so I regularly have performance and behavioral review meetings to ensure that I am meeting my targets and deadlines.

  • 6b. How much support do you receive from your employer?
  • I receive a large amount of support from my employer. They make me feel incredibly valued, which is fantastic considering I've only spent a few weeks of the year with them.

  • 7. How well does your salary/package meet your costs?
  • My salary package is incredibly competitive for an apprenticeship. It exceeds my needs as a 19 year old living at home with parents, so I've had money to buy a new car as well as other things. However, a few students living in rented accommodation have struggled at times.

    8/10

  • 8. Are there many opportunities outside of work?
  • There are opportunities outside of work that I have heard about, such as sports teams, however as I am at College full time it has been difficult to really take part. There is a scheme where every year we can have £200 from the company to be spent on a learning experience, which is fantastic.

  • 9. Would you recommend JLR to a friend?
  • Yes

  • 9b. Why?
  • I would recommend Jaguar Land Rover to a friend because I am really enjoying my time with the company. I have learned a huge amount, and the company is doing fantastic at the moment, so there is a great deal of investment.

  • 10. What tips or advice would you give to others applying to JLR?
  • I would advise anyone joining Jaguar Land Rover to learn about the companies background before applying, and to be prepared for an extremely tough application process! The apprenticeship is incredibly rewarding and enjoyable, so try your absolute best and show them what you have to offer.
